Frequently Asked Questions

Do I cut the T-shirts?

I prefer that the shirts are intact when I receive them. This makes the design process much easier. Please reach out if you have shirts that are already cut. Additionally, T-shirts should be washed and dried completely when I receive them. I will not wash or mend clothing. If you have a T-shirt that is ripped/torn that you really want to include, we can discuss options at the consultation. If T-shirts arrive dirty/stained, they will be incorporated into the quilt as is.

Can I wash my quilt?

Yes! I suggest washing the quilt by itself in cold water on the “Delicate” cycle and adding 2 color catcher sheets in the washer. Tumble dry on low for about 10 min and then hang to dry the rest of the way. If your quilt is too large for your washer/dryer, dry cleaning is your best option.

How long does it take to make a quilt?

Once I actually start on your quilt, it generally takes about 2-3 weeks to finish the project. However, depending on how many quilts I have in my queue, it could take up to 2 months (or more) before I get started on your project. If it is graduation or holiday season, wait times may be longer. If you have a deadline, it is best to reach out to me as soon as possible.

What is included in the price?

The price includes consultation with client, supplies (interfacing, batting, fabric, thread) and labor (cutting and interfacing shirts, design work, sewing, quilting and binding).

$50 booking fee is NOT included in the price.

Do I get to pick the fabric?

The short answer is, yes. At the consultation, we will discuss design and that includes fabric choices. For the backing/binding of the quilt, I offer 100% cotton fabric (black, grey, navy or pale pink). If you want a special color or a novelty fabric, there may be an upcharge. You will also choose your quilting design from available options at the consultation (there may be an upcharge for complex quilting designs).

How do I pay you?

I accept Venmo, Paypal or cash (local clients). Once your quilt is finished, I will email you an invoice. When payment is received in full, your quilt will either be shipped to you or available for pick up at an agreed upon time.

Shop Policies (T-shirt quilts)

The following policies are in place to protect both myself and the client as well as to provide the highest level of service and customer satisfaction.

  • Basics: T-shirt quilts are full of memories and I will take the utmost care in crafting a beautiful quilt that will be treasured for years to come. I will check with you on any questions I have as I work through the quilt making process. I ask that you respond to my questions in a timely manner so that I may complete your quilt in a timely manner. Any unused T-shirts will be returned to you.

  • Booking Fee: A $50 non-refundable booking fee is required to put your quilt order in my quilt queue. This can be paid via Venmo or PayPal. This booking fee is NOT included in the pricing indicated above. Once your fee is received, I will email you about next steps and setting up your consultation. Please plan to bring your washed t-shirts to the consultation. I work on quilts in the order I receive materials unless a prearranged agreement has been made.

  • Refunds: There are no refunds on custom made items. I will do my best to communicate with you throughout the quilt making process so that the quilt you receive matches your expectations. If there is a mistake that we communicated about and you have paid for AFTER I have completed the quilt, then I will offer you a discount.  The discount depends on the cost of the mistake.

  • Changes: Changes made by the client after the quilt has been started, may result in a delay in completion and a $30+ fee (can vary according to changes) is applied. Changes made by me, Heather Wurtzel, after the agreement could happen if there are issues with the design process, ordering of materials, quilting, etc. If necessary, I will contact the client as soon as possible to get approval or discuss other options on how to move forward.

  • Shipping: Non-local clients: I use USPS Priority mail with tracking and $50 insurance to ensure your quilt gets to you safely. Please indicate on your intake form if you would like me to buy any additional insurance on your behalf. It's a great idea to insure your valuables against loss or damage while with the Postal Service, but I don't require it. Shipping costs (including any additional insurance) will be invoiced to you. When signing the intake form, you understand that once I mail the box to you, I (Wurtzelvania Quilt Studio) am no longer responsible for the package.

  • Photographs: I'm not a professional photographer but I do my best to take "nice" photos with my "good" camera! Upon completion of the quilt, I will take photos in my well-lit studio and then text/email you those images to use however you would like. I'd just ask that you credit me for the photo and/or quilting if posting publicly. I also will not post photos of your quilt without permission. Please message me if you have any questions.

  • Multiple Quilts: A $50 booking fee is required for EACH quilt that you order. The estimated time frame for multiple quilts may be different from what is stated above. There is a 10% discount for clients who have purchased more than 1+ quilts.
